When the pandemic hit, Lionsgate pushed “Spiral” to the slot, which was originally going to be used for the launch of the now-delayed “John Wick Chapter 4.” With theaters reopening, Lionsgate has bumped “Spiral” to its current release date of May 14. The film was originally scheduled to be released on October 23, 2020, but was moved up to to take advantage of the summer movie season. ![]() The road to release for “Spiral” has been a bumpy one given the pandemic. “Saw II” remains the top domestic grosser with $87 million. Seven of the eight released “Saw” films have grossed over $100 million worldwide. There was a new installment of “Saw” every year between 20, before the franchise took a seven-year hiatus and returned in 2017 with “Jigsaw.” The franchise has proved lucrative at the box office for Lionsgate. Rock came up with the idea himself for this reimagining, the new trailer for which suggests the “Saw” movies are heading away from their gore-obsessed horror roots and into serial killer territory a la David Fincher’s “Seven.” Experience all nine films from one of the most successful horror franchises in movie history, from the original Saw to the new horrifying chapter, Spiral: From The Book of Saw. Saw X arrives in theaters on September 29th.The “ Saw” horror franchise is coming back for a ninth go-round on the big screen with the upcoming “ Spiral,” starring Chris Rock and Samuel L. The good news is that Lionsgate consistently makes their films available for VOD about two months after the theatrical release, so you’ll have Saw X on demand just in time for Thanksgiving. We will likely see Saw X on streaming sometime in early 2024, though it could be later. The average window from release to streaming can can be anywhere from 45-90 days, so it can really depend on how well our little Jigsaw does in theaters. In the past, Lionsgate movies were first released on Starz streaming service, and then over to Peacock. The movie hits theaters this weekend, so it will be quite some time before you’re able to stream Saw X. This means there will be some nice relics of Bush-era Saw traps. ![]() Instead, Saw Xwill take place sometime between the first and second sequels before Jigsaw dies, making this movie sometime in 2004 or 2005. The upcoming sequel will be the first since Chris Rock decided to insert himself into the Saw universe with Spiral, though it seems like people have just brushed that one off as one of those weird 2021 fever dreams, and we just won’t ever talk about it again.
